Hello!

I’m Dunja (‘Doonia’) from Amsterdam where I design wallpapers, home décor prints and interiors. Growing up I was always creating something with my hands, mostly with Fimo clay and beads. We had many dinners on the sofa because the kitchen table was completely covered with my mess!

How my career started

After high school I studied art history because of my love for historical patterns, colors and weird images. I started working in art institutions and did that for many years as an editor, researcher, fundraiser and project manager. However, the more I developed myself as a professional facilitator, the more I started to miss creating with my own hands. I asked myself why I studied art history in the fisrt place? Little did I know you could actually make a profession out of pattern design…

Why I choose surface pattern design

In recent years, while travelling in India and Indonesia, I rediscovered my love for batiks, colorful Indian textiles and exuberant historical prints. Closely connected to my mixed roots stretching all the way from Holland to Indonesia and Sri Lanka, these colorful designs have been part of my family history. They were now calling to my inner creative child.

Going back to school

I decided to follow my heart and go back to school to study interior design concepts and specialized in surface pattern design.  I graduated with a wallpaper and fabric collection, inspired by my mixed cultural background. You can read all about that in my next posts.

Thanks for staying tuned! 💫
