Brave New World

For my final exam project at Artemis Design School I designed a collection of wallcoverings and textile prints based on my Indo-European and Ceylonese ancestors. I called it: Brave New World.

A tribute to the new world citizen, who has roots from every where.

Who moves around in search of safety, prosperity, love and happiness.

Looking for a place of belonging.

Just like me.

Granny’s Lace and Abundant Greens

I used pictures from my Ceylonese great-grannies and I interviewed my father. He told me about the images, smells, colors and symbols that represent personal memories of his long lost birth country the Dutch Indies, which today is of course Indonesia.

Based on the symbols I extracted from this information, I designed three subcollections and color ways:

Granny’s Lace, Abundance of Greens and Tjitjak Mania.

There is a lot to tell about all of these designs, but I will show you some of the most striking images. Take a look and get inspired!
