Hi! I’m Dunja.
Studio Dunja is an interior décor and surface design studio founded in 2019. I’m based in my hometown Amsterdam, a historical, colorful and vibrant city in the Netherlands.
My colorful and vibrant designs breath an exotic and nomadic spirit, longing for undiscovered grounds, finding a sense of belonging.
My name is pronounced as Doonia which means ‘The World’ in several languages.
This meaning fits my style perfectly!
Why I started
I studied art history and worked for many art institutions.
After travelling in India and Indonesia I rediscovered my love for batiks, colorful Indian textiles and exuberant historical prints.
These colorful designs full of symbolism have always been part of my family history, stretching all the way from Holland to Indonesia and Sri Lanka. It was as if they were now calling to my creative soul.
I decided to follow this artistic voice and change career path. I went back to school to learn about interior styling, concept design and taught myself surface pattern design. You might recognize my diverse cultural influences in my colorful and expressive work.
What I do
I design patterns for wallpaper and other beautiful products you can use in your home. They will soon be available in my online shop. I also create creative concepts for interior and creative businesses, and of course my patterns are available for licensing.
Why I love it
I am grateful to follow this new career path around my own art. I love working with my hands involving my eye for detail and color, and to share this with my audience and other creatives. Running a creative business isn’t without its challenges, but it truly brings me more fullfilment than ever before.
